The Chesapeake Roller Derby will be invading Chops Restaurant & Lounge on February 22 for a fun evening of food, drink, laughs, pirates, derby skaters, auctions, a chance to hang out with the league and other assorted mischief. Help us to raise money for the upcoming season, and most importantly, have a great evening with each other!

Chesapeake Roller Derby’s third annual ‘Pirates versus Pilgrims’ game was a smashing success! The cost of entry was a donation of non-perishable food for the North East Social Action Program (NESAP), which supports local families in Carroll County.

With a carload of food collected, the pirates and the pilgrims got down to business on the track in front of family and friends! ‘Pirates versus Pilgrims’ is a favorite annual event for all, but especially for new skaters who get the chance to show off their newly acquired skating skills. Congratulations to Pummelina, Erin, James Bondage, Candy Cane, and Mount-in-Mama – you all rocked the concrete!

In the end, the Pirates won but the game was close. Homemade cupcakes, fudge and rice crispy treats were eaten and hot cider shared. An exciting kick-off to the holiday season and a wonderful lead in to our December 3 double-header!!!

Hosted by Chesapeake Roller Derby, and led by the sister duo and MADE veterans of South Jersey Derby Girls, Mos Deathly and Billy Rae Siren, this clinic will give skaters the opportunity to learn the latest MADE tricks and strategies, while fine tuning their understanding of the MADE Ruleset.

Taking place at the Danielle Shipley Memorial Arena at 706 Agricultural Center Drive, Westminster, MD 21157, the all day event will include four hours of assorted skills classes, followed by an hour scrimmage and referee practice — concluding with a two-hour referee discussion.

C.R.D. is asking for a $5 facility fee per person. The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on November 6th, 2011.

Some of our crew assembled on the streets of Westminster tonight to help kick off Fall Fest. How often do you see pirates skating down Main Street in Westminster? We’ll be doing a demo this weekend and we’ll be out and about – look for us at the CFCC booth. Say hi!

Beef! Skates! Jell-O Shooters! Money Wheels! Whisky Train! All this and more greeted Chesapeake Roller Derby fans and skaters who attended the “Bull and No Oysters but Lots of Shrimp Instead Roast” on Friday, September 9th. The event was attended by over 150 die hard roller derby and Ravens fans! Attendees brought ribbons for Casey Cares and part of the proceeds went to support the Sixth Branch, a veteran-guided service organization.

Oysters were scarce due to Hurricane Irene’s wrath in the bay, but luckily there were a ton of shrimp to be consumed, along with sloppy joe’s, ridiculously buttery mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and all-you-could-drink beer (in buckets)!

Whiskey Train got the crowd moving (and skating) early with some loud party rock while the gambling crowd starting laying down dollars at the big money wheel and the plant wheel. No really – a wheel where you could win plants! PLANTS!!! It was awesome.

With flavors like Cherry Cola and Rum Lime, the crowd couldn’t resist the Jell-O shots (or the corsets of the shooter girls, Trixie, Major and Frenchie) and hundreds were sold to raise money for CRD’s next game. Duece Eckies also did his part to sell shooters – however, lacking a corset of his own, had somewhat more limited success.

The pirates of Chesapeake Roller Derby invaded the Battlefield Harley Owners Group meeting, bringing their own brand of pirate merriment and mayhem. Team Mutiny engaged a crowd of 40 plus at The Pike restaurant on August 16 filling the room with the excitement and thrills of next roller derby.

“Who are these pirates?” and “why are they here?” wondered one HOG member. When suddenly everything stopped as CRD’s wench, The French Thwarter garnered all the men folk’s eyes. No introduction needed here as Frenchie took the room by storm.

A presentation led by Jacob Splatter introduced the remaining members to the Battlefield HOG attendees. Skater Mutter Ironhide and referee Tall Timber made quite the pair. While a multitude of Tim’s in the room were confused by CRD’s Just Tim, “not to be confused with just Tim”. Our own Harley riding skaters Deuce Eckies and Shea Legs, which made the trip in from Jacksonville, gave a rousing description of the on track action. Hard hits, lightning fast skaters and “no WFTDA rules here” as we play the old school way explained Deuce to the captivated crowd, as he simulated derby in his own unique style. You had to be there.

Jacob gave a stirring description of how close to the action the fans are and how CRD rolls. We’ll hit each other, table legs, and inanimate objects or simply take a seat in the stands with the fans. You don’t want to miss the next game on October 22. Perhaps if these derby virgins opt for the right seats they may end up with a derby girl in their lap!

The HOG members gave a hardy reception to the pirate crew and after pillaging and mingling with the HOG’s the CRD Mutiny weighed anchor and set sail for its next port of call.
